The coldest month of the year got to everyone, even us tough Israelis (who were never made to dig out their car from the snow…!). With hopefully most of the cold weather behind us, here is what has been happening in February and what will be happening in the coming month:
The tragedies in France and Denmark left us all wondering how to help support Europe’s Jewish communities. AJC hosted a number of solidarity events to give the community places to gather, listen and share opinions, thoughts and feelings. Additional information on upcoming events, and videos from previous events may be found on the AJC website.
Westchester was host to the Argov Program in Leadership and Diplomacy from IDC Herzliya on their recent visit to the New York area. Thanks to the hospitality of Harriet and Lenny Schlieffer, the students were warmly received in Chappaqua and got to know a bit of the landscape and community. The community, on the other hand, got to know some very promising young individuals- all dedicated in their own way to Israel and the Jewish people. For more information on the program, click here.
The WJC’s Israel Matters programs continued, despite the snow, to make progress in bringing together different perspectives to have meaningful and honest discussions on Israel. As the group continues to meet we are diving into tougher and more challenging issues. Scroll down to learn more about how you can bring Israel Matters to your Congregation.
Thank you to Congregation Kol Ami, JCC Harrison, Sinai Free Synagogue, and the Yorktown Jewish Center for hosting wonderfully interactive discussion groups on a myriad of Israel subjects.
Upcoming in March

Israel Elections will take place on March 17th. While this is not a Westchester event per say… these elections will certainly interesting and worth following. Stay tuned to find out how your community can get to know the new Knesset landscape.
On March 25th- the Westchester Jewish Council will be holding the annual Israel Roundtable for Israel professionals from across the County. We hope to see you there, where we will be debriefing on what happened in the elections with WRT’s Dr. Yoel Magid, and talking about what is planned for Yom Hazikaron/ Yom Haatzmaut.
JCC MidWestchester will continue its Israel movie festival throughout March. Make sure not to miss an amazing line up of original Israeli films!
… and much much more!
